Staffs Centre Introduction

The objectives of the Centre for Extended Enterprise and Business Intelligence will be to focus research effort on the following fundamental research fields with the intention of adding to both theoretical understanding and industry practices within the extended enterprises, the new business paradigm created by the new knowledge-based networked economy.

The areas of focus in the areas of Frontier Technology for Extended Enterprise and Business Intelligence include:

  • Trust and Reputation for Service Oriented Environment
  • Security, Privacy and Risk Management
  • Digital Eco-Systems and Technologies
  • Ontology-based Software Engineering
  • Ontology-based Knowledge Sharing
  • Data Mining for QoS Assessment
  • Distributed Web Services
  • E-Logistics Technologies

The above fields have been chosen because:

  • They represent the next generation of important ICT applications and
business solutions that are essential for the extended enterprise
  • They are potential areas for WA industry and commerce to develop into the international arena as well as provide them with the research and development support that is crucial in gaining a competitive edge in this modern business environment
  • Studies in these fields are distinguished from more general Information Science and Engineering, which are frequently focused on algorithms
  • They focus on IT and Business integration.

The Centre will help improve ICT services and enhance regional connections. The Centre focuses on Applied Research rather than Pure Research. The research in the areas of extended enterprise applications, ICT project management, security and trusted computing, logistics informatics, business transformation and technology adoption has a strong practical component. The outcomes of research in methodology, analysis, design, development and technology solutions can be directly applied to industry.
