1. Categories of Researchers
The Centre shall have the following categories of researchers:
Principal Researchers
- Initial members of the Centre shall be University staff engaged in research and/or teaching related to the work of the Centre, invited by the Director to become researchers.
- Subsequent members of the Centre shall be University staff engaged in work of the Centre invited by the Directors to become researchers.
- Researchers from within or outside Australia, who are able and willing to contribute to the objectives of the Centre and who are invited by the Directors.
Associate Researchers
Associate researchers of the Centre will be University staff, and researchers from within or outside Australia, who are able and willing to contribute to the objectives of the Centre and who are invited by the Directors.
Postgraduates
Postgraduates of the Centre shall be such people from within the University or other Universities in Australia or overseas, supervised and co-supervised by any Principal Researcher or Associate Researcher and on the recommendation by the Principal and Associated Researchers to work in the Centre.
Special Researchers
The Centre may, by resolution, confer Special Researcher of the Centre status upon any Industry Partners, corporation or unincorporated organisation who have made cash or in-kind contribution to the Centre and it deems to be able and willing to make a special contribution to the Centre for such a term and on such conditions as it sees fit.
Schools, Units and individuals admitted to be a researcher of the Centre shall cease to be members if they:
- In writing addressed to the Director resign from being a researcher of the Centre.
- In the case of Centre or schools, units, are dis-established or otherwise cease to exist in the University.
- Cease to be members of the University unless following written application to the Director, agrees to the continuation of their status as a Centre Researcher.
The Director shall report the details of all applications for Centre Researcher to all Principal Researchers.
2. Researchers' Entitlements
All Researchers of the Centre shall be entitled to attend and participate in technical discussions held within the Centre which shall include reviews of the progress made on current research fields or projects, teaching, and discussion of proposals for future research and teaching.
The Directors may determine the entitlements of members with respect to attendance at seminars, courses and conferences, access to consultation services, availability of the publications and research findings of the Centre and such other benefits as may be offered by the Centre.
3. Centre Management
Reporting on the Centre will be via the Dean of the Faculty or the DVC (Research).
The management of the Centre shall be vested in:
- A Centre Director
- A Centre Advisory Board consisting of the Director, board members (5 Internal and 3 External PI), plus optional representation from DVC (Research) / nominee
4. Director
The Director is a staff member of the University who is a Principal Researcher of the Centre and will advise the DVC (Research) through the annual Centre report.
The Director shall be the executive officer of the Centre and shall exercise a general superintendence over the affairs of the Centre in accordance with the objectives of the Centre and such policies as may be determined from time to time.
Subject to the delegations of the Director as approved by the DVC (Research), the Director:
- Shall prepare an annual budget for consideration and comment by the Board of Directors.
- May disburse funds on behalf of the Centre within the terms of the annual budget and any other authorisation given by the DVC (Research).
- May request the University to open accounts and to operate them and incur expenditure in accordance with the procedures and practices of the University.
- Shall report to the management of the research committee or DVC (Research) office.
- May make submissions to the University on any matter affecting the Centre.
- Shall maintain a personal involvement in the work of the Centre.
- May make applications for institute status.
- Shall contact board members for advice no less than once every two months.
5. The Centre Advisory Board
The Board of Directors shall:
- Advise the Director on policy of the Centre for the implementation of the objectives of the Centre.
- Advise and comment on the annual budget of the Centre.
- Review the progress of the research and teaching conducted within the Centre.
- Make recommendations on any matter affecting the Centre to the Director.
- In the event of a casual vacancy, that the Board may be filled in or elected and the person so appointed or elected shall hold office for the residue of the predecessor's term of Board.
- The Director shall preside at Board meetings, but in his / her absence from any meeting, the members present shall elect one of their number to preside at that meeting.
The Centre Advisory Board shall:
- Have meetings no less than once in the first semester and once in the second semester.
- Assign and re-assign responsibilities for research studies and projects.
- Solve issues and review reports on progress. It will also draft half yearly reports.
6. Centre Researcher Meetings
The Centre Principal Researchers shall have meetings no less than once in each semester or twice in a calendar year. Each Principal Researcher will be scheduled to carryout a 15 min presentation during the year.
At least seven days notice of any meeting shall be given in writing to each principal researcher of the Centre. Such notice shall specify the time, place and agenda of the meeting.
7. Policies and Procedures
The Centre will operate in accordance with University policies and procedures.

8. Centre Review
The activities of the Centre can be reviewed by a Committee appointed by the DVC (Research) every five years. University Council, upon the advice of the DVC (Research), may determine that the Centre continue to operate in the terms described in this document, that the Centre continue with changes to its organisational structure, or that the Centre be disestablished.
Annual performance measures will be presented in the Annual Reports of the Centre. A number of indicators will be examined. A timeline of operation will be developed for on-going reference. In addition, figures drawn for the RPI will assist in gauging both the amount of relevant research produced by Curtin staff associated with the Centre as well as ensuring the veracity of the claims.
Annual reports will also be placed on the Centre's website.
9. Centre Director
Initial appointment is recommended to be Prof Elizabeth Chang.
10. Centre Advisory Board
The Centre's Board will consist of academic members from the School of Information Systems, Curtin Business School, Computer Science and Computer Engineering from within Curtin University and from other domain areas at Curtin University which are related to IT applications, extended enterprise and business intelligence. It will also have top professors nationally and internationally drawn from our international and national network as well as industry representatives. The Board may be updated every three years.
